STHIRA (STEE-rah)
Sanskrit word meaning “steady,” “stable,” or “firm”
About the Studio
A Studio Built on Attention & Care
Sthira Studios has been home to serious yoga practice in Providence since 2005. The word sthira - pronounced STEE-rah - is a Sanskrit term meaning steady, stable, and firm. It’s how we want you to feel when you leave a yoga class - in body and mind.
What makes practice here different is how we teach. We start with the posture your body is actually in right now - not some ideal version of it. We give specific instructions on how to do each posture, and we help you find the version that works for your body, so you don’t leave class feeling like yoga isn’t for you.
As alignment comes into place, the body begins to reveal what it needs. Our teachers are trained to see that and respond to it, so that you leave each class feeling more balanced, more at ease, and more connected to how you move in daily life.
We teach you how to respond to what your body has to say rather than react to it. (We don’t want you to call it your “bad” shoulder - your body is listening!). Small classes. Certified teachers. A community of people who take their practice - and living an examined life - seriously.
